he received PhD in Applied Exercise Science from Queen’s University (Canada) in 2003 followed by postdoctoral studies in exercise epidemiology. Currently, he's the Tanenbaum Chair in Sport Science, Data Modelling and Sport Analytics at the University of Toronto, Canada. he've also held positions at York University in Toronto, and visiting researcher/professor positions in the Carnegie Research Institute at Leeds Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom, Victoria University and the Australian Institute of Sport in Australia and the Institute of Sport Science at Westflische Wilhelms-Universitat Münster in Germany. 

His research uses models from sport to explore the influences on optimal human development, ranging from issues affecting athlete development and skill acquisition to talent identification and performance forecasting. He is the Past President of the Canadian Society for Psychomotor Learning and Sport Psychology and the author/editor of 13 books, 5 journal special issues and more than 300 peer reviewed articles, commentaries, position statements, and book chapters.

Professor Dr Firdaus was born in Kuala Lumpur and is the Past President for the Asian Cognitive Behavior Therapy Association (ACBTA) and currently serve as Training and Accreditation of World Confederation CBT. In Malaysia, she works as a Professor and Consultant Clinical Psychologist at Psychiatry Clinic, Hospital Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah, UPM. She was appointed as a Global Leader Ambassador 2023 and was the first Honorary Secretary for Malaysian Society of Clinical Psychology. She served as an advisor for both 10th World CBT Congress in Seoul , South Korea 2023 and 8th Asian CBT Congress in New Delhi, India in 2024.
