Objective: The purpose of this comparison is to examine the effect of a course of cognitive training on decision-making ability and neurocognitive and physical performance of healthy and physically disabled individuals.
Methods: The study population included all healthy and physically disabled adult men aged 35 to 55 years in Shahrekord city in 2025. The study sample included 30 people selected through purposive and accessible sampling and divided into two groups: healthy (15 people) and physically disabled (15 people). In the pre-test phase, both healthy and physically disabled groups were given a pre-test measuring the standard decision-making power questionnaire of Johnson et al. (2009), Strop color and word test, Lindenberg standard physical condition improvement questionnaire, and Roland and Morris standard physical disability questionnaire. Then, both groups entered the intervention period for 16 sessions (4 weeks, 4 sessions) that included a cognitive training protocol through the Captain's Log computer software. After the intervention period, the post-test phase was repeated again with the same method and conditions as the pre-test phase and data were collected. Statistical analysis was performed using multivariate analysis of variance and Bonferroni post-hoc test through SPSS26 statistical software.
Results: The results showed that cognitive training caused significant improvements in all studied variables (decision-making power, decision-making accuracy, decision-making timeliness, neurocognitive function, and physical function) in both groups.
Conclusion: Cognitive training is an effective tool for improving performance, but its effectiveness is more noticeable in healthy individuals due to their greater nervous system health and higher capacity.
