Abstract
Background and Aims: Psychological safety in sport is a condition for expressing oneself to take interpersonal risks, knowledge and understanding of mental health symptoms, and feeling supported and comfortable in seeking help from others. The aim of the present study was to examine the social experiences of athletes in relation to their perception of psychological safety with the moderating effect of coping skills.
Materials and Methods: For this purpose, 203 football players completed questionnaires on psychological safety in sport, psycho-biosocial experiences, and coping strategies in sport using a random cluster sampling method. Data were analyzed using correlation coefficient and path analysis statistical methods in SPSS23 and Smart PLS 3 statistical software.
Results: The results showed that there is a positive and significant relationship between social sports experiences with psychological safety and coping skills. It was also shown that there is a positive and significant relationship between psychological safety and coping skills. The results showed that social experiences in sport have the ability to predict psychological safety both directly and indirectly through coping strategies.
Conclusion: The results were discussed using theories related to psychological safety in sport and social experiences.
