Abstract
Objectives: The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of personality types (A & B) on the prediction of competitive anxiety of referees in the top men's and women's football and futsal leagues in Iran.
Methods: The study was applied in nature and descriptive-correlational in terms of data collection method. The statistical population consisted of 293 referees in the top men's and women's football and futsal leagues. The samples were estimated to be 211 people according to Morgan's table. The main research tool was two questionnaires (52 items) whose face and content validity were confirmed by 15 experts. Through Cronbach's alpha, the reliability of the state-competitive anxiety questionnaires was 0.95 and the personality type was 0.80. Linear regression was used to analyze the data and the significance level was determined to be (P ≥ 0.05).
Results: The findings showed that in football (r = -0.32) and futsal (r = -0.39), as well as in men (r = -0.26) and women (r = -0.41), the effect of personality types (A & B) on the prediction of competitive anxiety is negative and significant. The results of the regression analysis showed that in both football and futsal, personality types have an average ability to explain and predict competitive anxiety, as well as in men (weak) and women (moderate). Other results indicated that in football, personality types have an average ability to predict competitive anxiety, and in men, they have an average ability to predict competitive anxiety.
Conclusions: According to the research findings, personality types (A & B) have the ability to predict competitive anxiety in referees of the Iranian Premier Leagues of Football and Futsal (men and women). In the meantime "Type A" personality has a greater ability to predict competitive anxiety.
